Everything you have ever known began with a thought.
Every decision.
Every discovery.
Every relationship.
Every conflict.
Every war.
Every civilization.
Every act of compassion.
Even your name began as a thought in your parents' minds, before it was ever yours.
Much of what you call yourself is thought.
The ideas you've collected about who you are:
Your memories.
Your beliefs.
Your desires.
Your expectations.
Your anxiety.
Your depression.
Your failures.
Your hopes.
Your successes.
Your happiness.
Your peace.
Thought is involved in almost everything you experience.
You think about what you see. You think about what you feel.
You think about what has happened and what might happen.
You think about yourself, about others, and about life itself.
But have you ever stopped to ask:
“What is a thought?”
“Do you govern your thoughts, or do they govern you?”
Usual response,
Why would anyone ask such questions?
Because before making any sense of life, perhaps you must understand the one thing that is constantly interpreting it.
“Understanding thought is the very difference between being alive and truly living.”
And perhaps that is where yoga begins.
